A severe thunderstorm watch that some of the state’s counties were under is no longer in place.

Even so, the National Weather Service said in a special weather statement Wednesday evening that parts of New London County would be affected by a strong thunderstorm.

There was one “located near North Lyme, or near Salem, moving east at 20 mph” minutes before 7 p.m., according to the weather service.

“Winds in excess of 40 mph and nickel size hail are possible with this storm,” NWS said.

As night falls, skies will be mostly cloudy and then gradually become clear as the temperature drops to a low around 60 degrees.

On Thursday, the weather service predicts mostly sunny skies with a high near 80 degrees and a slight breeze. By night, it’ll be partly cloudy with a low around 60.

There’s a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Friday, the weather service said. The temperature will reach a high around 80 degrees with a light breeze. By night, it’ll be mostly clear with a low around 60.

Connecticut goes into the weekend with sunny skies and a high near 81 degrees Saturday. By night, there’s a 40 percent chance of showers with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 65 degrees.

Sunday brings a chance of showers, with thunderstorms possible in the afternoon, the weather service forecast shows. It’ll be mostly cloudy with a high near 82 degrees. At night, the temperature drops to a low around 67, with partly cloudy skies and a 30 percent chance of overnight showers and thunderstorms.
