Spain’s sports minister, Jose Manuel Rodriguez Oribes, said on Tuesday that the national football team will receive a COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday, one week before the start of its Euro 2020 campaign after captain Sergio Busquets tested positive for the virus.

Busquets’ injury caused chaos in Spain’s preparations for the European Championship, as the remaining 23 players in the squad went into isolation along with all members of the coaching staff.

Luis de la Fuente, Spain’s under-21 coach, will lead the youth team against Lithuania in a friendly on Tuesday, in a match that was supposed to be the last experience of the first team before the European Championship.

Spain coach Luis Enrique called up 6 players, including Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga; To complete the lineup.

The new players will train in a “parallel bubble” away from the European squad; For the possibility of joining some of them in case of need.

So far, all the other players and coaching staff have been negative.

“There will be an exception because they represent us in a high-class tournament,” Rodriguez Oribes told Cadena Ser radio.

He also confirmed that there was a plan to vaccinate the players before the Spanish captain was infected with the virus.

Spain will play Sweden at the start of its European Championship campaign in Group E, next Monday
