The Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival continues to explore “The Cinema of the Future” on its 60th anniversary.

This year, the festival includes films from Ukraine and Colombia, and the first work of its director, starring Gerard Depardieu.

Within this week, seven feature films are competing, the first for their directors, and six other films in special screenings, according to the list that was announced on Monday, and the works included in it were chosen from among more than a thousand tapes watched by the organizers, a number slightly less than the number of films that were applying to participate in the years previous.

The festival’s general delegate, Charles Teson, said that several films show “characters fighting, and stories about the liberation of boys or women characters, and their desire to find their way and go to the limits of themselves.

” The selection of the winner is carried out by a jury headed by Romanian director Christian Mungiu (the Palme d’Or winner 2007).

Among the first works of its directors, the French film “Ryanafuter” by Julie Lacoste and Emmanuel Mar, and another Egyptian by Omar Al-Zuhairi about a father who turns into a chicken due to a magic trick that went wrong, in addition to a film from Colombia (“Amparo” by Simone Mesa Soto) about a woman in the middle of the civil war.

, as well as from Switzerland and Ukraine (“Olga” by Eli Graby).

The week opens with an out-of-competition film “Robust” by Constance Mayer, with star Gérard Depardieu.

The selected list was equally divided between men and women, as it includes films by seven male directors and the same by female directors, noting that 30% of the 1000 advanced films are for females.

“We don’t start with the half-obsession, we start with the films themselves, and we’re glad the result” is equal, Tyson said.

Critics’ Week (7-15 July), one of the main parallel sections of the Festival de Cannes, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year
