After he was introduced by Brits host Jack Whitehall as “the Buckfast Adele,” in reference to the infamous Scottish drink, Lewis sauntered onto the stage and started shouting “shut up…shut up” before saying: “hello motherf***ers,” as the sound was swiftly muted and distorted noises played over the top of him.

One Twitter user posted an uncensored clip where Lewis could be heard saying: “I'm f***ing sweating here. It's like a swamp down there…sweaty b*****ks.”

Going back to script, Lewis told fans: “Sorry, I'm reading off a card here…how is everyone doing? It's great to be here tonight.

“It's just great to be out of the house to be honest,” but as he said: “it's been a great year…” he was muted once again, with the uncensored video revealing Lewis said: “it's been a great year for albums, most of all because I haven't f***ing released one.”

He ended by saying: “let's hope this year is even bigger and better than ever for British music,” before an ill advised football comment when he added: “and obviously let's also hope Scoland win at the Euros,” which prompted boos from the crowd, with his response seeing the audio being cut for a further time as he held the cue card up and shouted: “I didn't f***ing write it!”

“It's great to be here, it's just great to be out of the house to be honest. It's been a great year-“

Again, Lewis was muted before saying that he hoped that this year was “bigger and better than ever” for music.

At the end of his speech, he flippantly remarked: “Some good s***.”

Stunned fans flocked to Twitter to comment, with one tweeting: “lewis capaldi trending for being chaotically hilarious as he should!! #brits2021.”

“ITV producers watching Lewis Capaldi right now #brits2021,” another commented.

Tonight's ceremony kicked off with an incredibly glitzy red carpet, with all eyes on Little Mix as they arrived in matching white outfits.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Perrie Edwards cradling their bumps as they graced the red carpet at London's O2 Arena.

Earlier, host Jack Whitehall couldn't resist a cheeky dig at Little Mix's “feud” as the now-trio made history by becoming the first female group to win Best British Band.

Since Jesy's exit, it's been reported that she doesn't even want to be mates with Jade, Perrie and Leigh-Anne, never mind work with them again.

And it's said that the remaining trio have been upset about some of the things Jesy has said and the fact that she's started working on her own music so quickly.

Ahead of the award, Jack spoke about the year of music and, in reference to the split, Jack quipped: “Little Mix got littler.”

After winning the award, the trio in white joined the stage and were in tears over the win.

Perrie gushed: “Oh my goodness. Guys, we have just made history! I'm really emotional. In the hopes that he won the award, we made a little speech.”

Leigh-Anne went on to read their speech, in which they thanked their absent former member.

She said: “We have been together for 10 years, it's been the best years of our lives… we want to thank our incredible fans and of course Jesy …

“It's not easy being a female in the pop industry [but] we've stuck together

Jade added: “The fact that a girl band has never won this award speaks volumes.”
