The Pentagon has taken an unusual step to control vulnerabilities in its networks, by ceding some authority over the main Internet resource.

And the Pentagon has given a “shadowy” startup in Florida called “Global Resource Systems”, control of nearly 175 million IPv4 (Internet Protocol) addresses, according to the site, “Engadget”, technical specialist.

It turns out that the company began managing and controlling the discontinued addresses on Jan.

20, but its efforts grew over the next three months.

For his part, Brett Goldstein, Director of Digital Services at the US Department of Defense, said that this step was an experiment to study and prevent the unauthorized use of IP addresses of the US military, noting that it helps at the same time to identify potential weaknesses.

However, the Department of Defense stressed that it still had the IP addresses.

It is not clear the real reason behind this move and the reason for choosing this particular company.

It is noteworthy that the company “Global Resource Systems” was established in September 2020, and does not have a website on the Internet.

Reports indicated that this step can help the US military gather information about threats or breaches, and is also an important step, as it is used to prevent hostile governments or hackers from controlling idle IP addresses
