Live build-up, updates and reaction from Anfield as Newcastle take on the reigning Premier League champions

Hello and welcome to today's live blog bringing you live coverage of Liverpool vs Newcastle at Anfield.

The Magpies travel to the home of the Premier League champions going in search of their third successive victory.

A win would put Newcastle 11 points clear of the relegation zone, and almost certain of achieving Premier League survival, but they take on a Liverpool side who have serious ambitions of their own.

Jurgen Klopp's side cannot afford any more slip ups in their bid to qualify for next season's Champions League with the Reds currently two points adrift of the top four with six matches remaining.

Our Chief Football Writer Lee Ryder is on the ground at Anfield and we will bring you all of the build-up, updates, analysis and reaction from Merseyside as and when it happens.

Kick-off is at 12:30pm with match build-up beginning right here in the blog at 9:30am. Stick with us throughout the day.

That was an utterly bizarre game – Liverpool could have been out of sight but #NUFC had their chances too. Frustrating that for the last 20 minutes or so United were passive – the game was there for them. A great point in the end especially after that goal is disallowed.

What an utterly bizarre game.

Willock earns NUFC a draw. Wilson is fuming his goal was ruled out.

1-1

Willock has done it again! Dummett fires a long ball home, it's headed down by Gayle and it's Willock who controls and fires home.

Beautiful.

Wilson is played into the box – two men shrugged off, he hits it off the keeper and it rebounds back off him and he puts it home.

VAR reviews it – it's hit his hand. Disallowed.

Ritchie fires one into the box and Willock rises, unchallenged, but heads over.

Corner was poor. Cleared. Four minutes added on.

Murphy puts a lovely ball into the box and it takes a header from Fabinho to clear – three were waiting.

Saint-Maximin has knocked the ball past Fabinho – and the defender wipes him out. Booking.

Wilson nearly gets a sight of goal with a ball over the top but it's just dealt with.

Miggy then nearly does exactly the same but pulls up. His afternoon is over.

Gayle is ON for Miggy.

Corner comes in and it's cleared as far as Milner on the edge, who controls and fires at goal. Dubravka is equal to it.

Ball over the top, Mane brings it down and fires at goal – great save.

Corner comes in, that's cleared for another corner.

Curtis Jones replaces Thiago.

From a Liverpool corner, it drops to Alexander-Arnold on the edge who fires on the volley at goal – just wide.

Longstaff is careless in possession on the edge of the box – giving it straight to Liverpool.

Salah fires wide from the mistake. Should score.

Ciaran Clark has been below his best today but shoving Jonjo Shelvey into defence is utterly bemusing. Square peg, round hole.

I'm just baffled. It's hard to argue when people put forward that Bruce won't drop/replace Shelvey no matter what…

Magpies break again, Wilson finds Almiron who picks out Ritchie but his cross is blocked

Shelvey has dropped back in defence.

LEE RYDER

Miggy loses the ball and Robertson dries forward – he fires wide.

Willock is ON for Ciaran Clark.

Wilson forces Alisson into a panicked clearance, it falls to Shelvey who for some reason puts it back to Dubravka – who controls it but can't see it in the sun, Mane puts it wide.

Utterly biazarre.

Joelinton is OFF for Callum Wilson.

Firmino clatters ASM who goes down – screaming.

Firmino at close range forces Dubravka into a good save.

Jota OFF – Milner ON

Oh Big Joe, you've got to score! The no.9 is played into the box and he fires it right at Alisson – it's a good save, but you feel he has to score.

When Liverpool attack it's frustrating with the Magpies just standing off but United have ventured forward a few times without actually creating much.

Murphy sees a shot blocked before Joelinton screams for a penalty as he goes up for a ball – nothing given.

Joelinton is played into the box by a delightful chip over the top from Shelvey – but the keeper rushes out to clear.

Should do better here as he turns on the edge of the box but thankfully it's tame and straight at Dubravka.

Newcastle get the 2nd half under-way.

Liverpool need a win to move into the top four when they take on Newcastle United at Anfield this afternoon.

Jurgen Klopp has made a change from the side that draw with Leeds United last week as Mohamed Salah is recalled to the starting eleven having been rested on Monday night.

James Milner is the man to make way as Liverpool line-up with all four of their attackers. That means Diogo Jota retains his place to start along with Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the Reds attack.

Gini Wijnaldum keeps his place in midfield along with Thiago Alcantara so Naby Keita has to settle for a place on the bench along with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones – who’s back from injury.

With Nat Phillips on the sidelines along with Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, Fabinho starts in defence once again alongside Ozan Kabak, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

As for Newcastle, Callum Wilson is back in the squad but is only named on the bench with Allan Saint-Maximin supporting Joelinton in attack this afternoon.

Here are the confirmed line-ups:

Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Kabak, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Thiago, Mane, Salah, Jota, Firmino

Subs: Adrian, Milner, Keita, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Tsimikas, Shaqiri, R. Williams, N. Williams

Dubravka, Murphy, Fernandez, Clark, Dummett, Ritchie, Shelvey, S Longstaff, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Joelinton

Subs: Carroll, Gayle, Wilson, Lewis, Hendrick, Krafth, Manquillo, Willock, Gillespie
