COSTA Coffee customers have been left furious this morning after the app crashed due to high demand for its 50p drinks offer

COSTA Coffee customers have been left furious this morning after the app crashed due to high demand for its 50p drinks offer.

The chain is offering all hot drinks for 50p each for three days this week to mark its 50th birthday.

But many fans were left frustrated this morning when its app – which customers need to use to access the deals – stopped letting you log in.

When The Sun tried at the time of writing, we got an error message saying: "Oops! Sorry, it's not you, it's us.

Please try again later."

Many customers have also vented their frustration on social media.

One customer tweeted: “I’ve been trying to log on all morning.

Really disappointed as I was looking forward to my 50p Costa.”

While another added: "Would love to take advantage of the #CostaCoffee 50p drinks today with the hubby as we travel (essentially).

"But alas the @CostaCoffee app has crashed and logged me out and stopped him using his.

"Come on Costa! If you run an offer make sure your digital teams are prepared!"

And a third said: "Anyone else feel conned by Costa app crashing?

"I’ve taken a screenshot of the QR Code though, so I’ll queue as long as I need for a 50p drink."

One Costa worker said: “It’s been a nightmare.

We got in this morning early…

and by 7.30am the app had gone down.

We feared this might happen.

"Apparently it is just sheer weight of numbers of people logging on.

"A lot of people returning to the shops had popped in for a drink first and are fuming."

If you're unable to log in on the app, Costa Coffee told The Sun customers can redeem the offer by showing the app at the till point of any store.

A spokesperson added: "We’re experiencing some technical issues with our Costa Coffee app and are working hard to resolve it.

"We’d like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience this has caused."

Under the deal, the coffee chain is selling all hot drinks for just 50p today, tomorrow and on Thursday this week.

Registered Costa Coffee Club mobile app users will only pay 50p per hot drink as long as they scan the app when they purchase.

The deal includes speciality drinks such as a handcrafted oat milk Flat-White, the signature Hot Chocolate or even the newest addition to the menu, the limited-edition Toffee Spiced Latte.

But there are some limitations as you're only allowed to have up to three extras or an alternative milk.

In other deals, McDonald's is offering free hot drinks to customers today.

Other big chains including Beefeater and Zizzi are also offering discounts to welcome customers back in.

Pubs and restaurants reopened for outdoor dining yesterday for the first time in months.

For the next three days, coffee lovers around the UK can grab a discount drink at Costa Coffee.

The chain is selling all hot drinks for 50p to celebrate its 50th birthday.

To get the discount, available from 13 April to 15 April, customers have to be registered on the Costa Coffee Club mobile app and be able to scan the app as they purchase their drink.

Coffee, hot chocolate and tea are all on the 50p deal, but the low prices are a great opportunity to try some of the chain’s more adventurous drinks like the Caramel Oat Latte, Vanilla Coconut Latte, or the limited-edition Toffee Spiced Latte.

Customers can choose up to three toppings (usually 50p each) with the 50p deal, including cream, flake, marshmallows etc.

Hot drink prices vary, ranging from around £2 to £3.50, which works out to a saving of around £1.50 to £3 on average per drink.

“We are delighted to continue our 50th birthday celebrations by bringing Costa Coffee fans this amazing offer of ANY barista-made hot drink for just 50p,” said a Costa Coffee spokesperson.

“We know it’s been a tough start to 2021 for many and we want to bring some joy to our customers this spring, especially at a time when lockdown restrictions are easing, and we now have an opportunity to catch up with friends and family.”

Costa Coffee stores are open for takeaway, Drive-Thru, Click & Collect and delivery, while the Costa Coffee app is available for both Apple and Android users.
