Corrie will be paying tribute to Johnny, who played Mike Baldwin in the show in a documentary airing tonight at 8pm
BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT
Coronation Street will be paying tribute to Johnny Briggs tonight in a special ITV documentary.
The documentary will air at 8pm and will look at Johnny’s life playing Mike Baldwin in the soap for thirty years from 1976-2006.
Johnny died last month on February 28 and his family’s statement read: ‘It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our father, Johnny Briggs.’
In the statement released by Johnny’s family, it said how the actor: ‘passed away peacefully this morning after a long illness, with family by his side.
He was 85.’
Mike Baldwin was businessman and owned Underworld, and also became known for his long standing rivalry with Ken Barlow (William Roache).
Mike’s feud with Ken led to a huge love triangle storyline with Deirdre (Anne Kirkbride) that gripped the nation.
The documentary airing tonight will discuss how huge this affair story was.
Mike was also quite the ladies’ man during his time on the cobbles, and ended up getting married four times on screen.
Mike was the father of three sons: Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) who is still on screen today, Mark Redman (Paul Fox) and Danny Baldwin (Bradley Walsh).
Johnny left the show in 2006 after Mike was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2005.
After a confused Mike left hospital, Ken found him, and after he suffered a heart attack, Mike died in his rival’s arms.
Johnny was most known for playing Mike Baldwin, but away from Corrie, he also starred in BBC One’s Doctors and Holby City, and the TV series Z Cars and Echo Beach.

His family said he had died peacefully after "a long illness, with family by his side" and asked for privacy to "remember the wonderful times we had with him".
