India vs England, IND vs ENG 1st ODI Live Cricket Score Streaming Online Today Match: Team India takes on world champion England in a three-match ODI

India vs England (IND vs ENG) 1st ODI Live Cricket Score: England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and opted to field against India in the first ODI of the three-match series in Pune on Tuesday.

India handed ODI debuts to Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav also made a comeback to the playing XI.

For England, Sam Billings, Tom Curran and Moeen Ali are back in the XI.

The series is particularly important for the 35-year-old Shikhar Dhawan, who failed to make an impact in the first T20 in Ahmedabad before warming the benches the remaining two games which India won.

For the Indian team, the series would be an extension of its preparations for the T20 World Cup later this year.

The 50-over-format, in general, remains low priority in 2021 with no major tournaments around the corner.

Ben Stokes provided England the much-needed breakthrough.

Got Rohit Sharma out and broke India’s opening partnership.

Short and wide, almost a wide, Rohit usually smashes that past backward point but got an outside edge as the ball swung away.

Nice catch taken by the keeper

With 25 runs off the last 5 overs, Rohit and Shikhar have stitched a 50-run partnership in 13 overs.

Both the openers have a clear aim of staying in the middle and saving quickfire runs for later.

Tom and Sam Curran are on the attack from England.

5⃣0⃣-run partnership! 👍👍@ImRo45 & @SDhawan25 complete a half-century stand.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have not played big shots so far and kept their wickets intact for the explosion later in the game.

After 10 overs, India are just 39/0 with Rohit 19 off 27 and Shikhar 20 off 33.

Since Pune is hosting all three ODIs without spectators, the Indian cricket team and especially Sachin Tendulkar’s diehard fan Sudhir Kumar can be seen waving the national flag from a nearby hill.

What a visual from an on-ground camera!

The slow and steady Dhawan hit two consecutive fours on Mark Wood’s fourth and fifth ball of the seventh over.

Dhawan is getting into the grooves.

While Rohit Sharma’s elbow injury looks serious as he again called for medical assistance at the middle.

He is clearly in pain.

With England pacers getting bounce from the surface, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan taking their time at the middle.

Both have accumulated just 15 runs in the first 6 overs with one boundary each.

Augurs well for India.

Mark Wood’s fourth delivery of the fifth over hit Rohit Sharma’s right elbow at 148km/h.

He’s getting some medical attention.

The play halts for a while.

Rohit Sharma got some bandages after getting hit on the elbow.

Pray for Hitman #INDvENG pic.twitter.com/ELYwlmeyqq

The new ball which is just 16-ball-old has been changed due to some issues with it.

Perhaps it’s hit a divot or a protrusion close to the boards when Dhawan played that shot? Or did Wood bang it too hard into the pitch?

In absence of Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan, England handed the ball to all-rounder Sam Curran in the second over of the innings.

Both Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan have been watchful in the first two overs.

‘Very happy to bat first, we had different plans.

Weather is going to drastically change in the evening.

It’s a great opportunity for us to put runs on the board.

The last game we played here against England is a great memory.

If we believe we are a top side we should be ready to do anything, whether we decide or asked to do something.

KL will bat at 5 and keep.

Top four are Rohit, Shikhar, myself and Sheryas.

Hardik bats at 6, Krunal at 7.

Shardul 8, Bhuvi at 9, Prasidh and Kuldeep complete.’

INDIA XI: Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna

Toss winning skipper Morgan says: Looks a good wicket, a bit more grass than we expected.

It’s a good challenge we are looking forward to.

Sam Billings, Tom Curran and Moeen Ali are back.

And we are bowling.

England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan(c), Jos Buttler(w), Ben Stokes, Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

A lot has been at stake during England’s tour of India.

The riveting T20I series served as an audition for the World Cup scheduled later in the year.

Prior to that, the four-match Test series decided who will face New Zealand in the World Test Championship final.

But the three-match ODI series to be held behind closed doors in Pune at the fag end of the sojourn offers little context and relevance, with back-to-back T20 World Cups pencilled in before the next 50-over showpiece event in 2023.

Krunal Pandya and Prasidh Krishna have been handed their caps.

So after the T20 series, India and England lock horns in the 50-over format.

Fast bowler M Prasidh Krishna, spin-bowling all-rounder Krunal Pandya and top-order batsman Suryakumar Yadav received maiden call-ups to India’s one-day squad on Friday for their three-match series against England, which begins next week.

One stat which works in favour of the home team is that India have beaten England in their last 5 bilateral men’s ODI series at home.

Teams:

India (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli(c), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Shardul Thakur, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Prasidh Krishna England (Playing XI): Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Eoin Morgan(c), Jos Buttler(w), Ben Stokes, Sam Billings, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood

India v England ODI series: With little at stake, two top teams can fine-tune white-ball prowess

After 21 overs, India are 89/1 (Shikhar Dhawan 44, Virat Kohli 15)
Lovely cover drive Kohli in the over.

When he plays this shot well, you know he is feeling pretty good about his game.

72 dot balls in India’s innings so far.

After 20 overs, India are 83/1 (Shikhar Dhawan 43, Virat Kohli 10)
Another good over for England, just three from it.

No loose ball offered from Adil Rashid.

The Indian batsmen aren’t in any hurry at the moment.

After 19 overs, India are 80/1 (Shikhar Dhawan 42, Virat Kohli 8)
Three runs from that Tom Curran over.

England’s bowlers have done well to not give too many boundary balls.

The average first innings score in ODIs at this ground is 292.

After 18 overs, India are 77/1 (Shikhar Dhawan 41, Virat Kohli 6)
Adil Rashid joins the attack and bowls a tidy first over, just two runs from it.

Not much turn for the leg-spinner first up.

After 17 overs, India are 75/1 (Shikhar Dhawan 40, Virat Kohli 5)
Another tight over from Tom.

The Curran brothers have been economical so far.

Dhawan is also looking good at the crease.

After 15.1 overs, India are 64/1 – Rohit Sharma is gone!
WICKET!
Ben Stokes strikes and England get the breakthrough! Rohit will be bitterly disappointed with that dismissal.

He chased a wide ball and ended up nicking it to Jos Buttler.

That would’ve been called a wide.

After battling through the pain of that elbow injury and getting his eye in, Rohit has thrown it away.

He walks back for 28 off 42 as skipper Virat Kohli comes to the crease.

After 15 overs, India are 64/0 (Rohit Sharma 28, Shikhar Dhawan 34)
Shot! Tom Curran bangs one in and Rohit Sharma steps out a bit to play his trademark pull for four.

The Rohit Sharma-Shikhar Dhawan partnership rarely disappoints.

They have already put on 51 off 78 balls.

After 14 overs, India are 58/0 (Rohit Sharma 23, Shikhar Dhawan 33)
Ben Stokes joins the attack, bangs one in and gets pulled by Dhawan to fine-leg for four.

The right-arm pacer ends the over with a beauty to beat Rohit’s outside edge.

Time for drinks.

After 13 overs, India are 51/0 (Rohit Sharma 23, Shikhar Dhawan 27)
Fifty up for India! Good over from Tom Curran, just two runs from it.

He’s getting subtle movement to test the batsmen.

India reach the 10th over without losing a wicket, but they've played with some risk – 22% false shots in all.

That's the highest England have drawn in P1 without taking a wicket since the World Cup group stage match against Australia in 2019, when Australia played 32%.

#INDvENG

Watching an ODI after a T20 series…

feels like watching cricket in slow motion.

It takes a while to acclimatise.

After 12 overs, India are 49/0 (Rohit Sharma 22, Shikhar Dhawan 26)
The Indian openers do well to bag seven runs in that Sam Curran over without taking any risk.

One big over for India here and suddenly it’ll look like a great start to the innings for the hosts.

After 11 overs, India are 42/0 (Rohit Sharma 20, Shikhar Dhawan 22)
Tom Curran joins the attack and concedes three singles in his first over.

The right-arm quick beat Dhawan’s outside edge with his first ball and struck Rohit high on the pad off his last ball of the over.

After 10 overs, India are 39/0 (Rohit Sharma 19, Shikhar Dhawan 20)
Five runs from that Sam Curran over and that’s the end of the powerplay.

India haven’t got a flying start but they will be glad they haven’t lost a wicket on this green-ish looking pitch.

After 9 overs, India are 34/0 (Rohit Sharma 17, Shikhar Dhawan 17)
Back-to-back fours for Rohit! The first one was hit on the rise and in the air past cover, the next one was a classy punch straight back to a full delivery.

Eight runs from that Wood over.

Good to see India continuing with Rahul as keeper & middle-order batsman.

He needed a confidence booster…

plus, you cannot keep changing every damn strategy every month.

#IndvEng

England getting quite a lot of swing with the new ball here.

Wood getting it to go late, Curran out of the hand, but they've both started pretty brightly.

Neither of them prolific new ball wicket-takers in white ball but an encouraging P1.

After 8 overs, India are 26/0 (Rohit Sharma 9, Shikhar Dhawan 17)
Dropped! Dhawan cuts one hard and Jason Roy at point can’t hold on.

That was a tough chance, though.

Rohit then survives a run-out chance as Sam Billings puts in the throw.

Rohit had to put in the dive, would’ve been close had it hit.

Just two singles from that Sam Curran over.

Rohit is struggling with that elbow blow.

He’s in discomfort and the physio is out again to tape the wound up.

After 7 overs, India are 24/0 (Rohit Sharma 8, Shikhar Dhawan 16)
Back-to-back fours for Dhawan! He cuts one to the fence before driving one on the rise past cover and mid-off.

Wood a bit all over the place in that over.

After 6 overs, India are 15/0 (Rohit Sharma 8, Shikhar Dhawan 7)
First four for Rohit, he guides one to the fine-leg fence with a nice scoop shot.

Five runs from that Sam Curran over.

There’s a considerable amount of grass on this pitch and England would want to get a breakthrough soon.

Rohit continuing but it will be a while before the elbow settles.

He’s hurting for now.

Two maiden overs in a row for England.

After 4.4 overs, India are 10/0 (Rohit Sharma 4, Shikhar Dhawan 6)
Ouch! That has got to hurt Rohit! Wood bowls one at 148 kmph, the ball bounces steeply and hits the right-hander on his right elbow.

The physio is out and Rohit looks to be in pain.

Everyone saw this coming sooner than later!
So happy for you both @krunalpandya24 & @prasidh43.

pic.twitter.com/ahXOqWXSK3

After 4 overs, India are 10/0 (Rohit Sharma 4, Shikhar Dhawan 6)
Maiden over from Sam Curran.

The left-arm pacer keeps a tight line and shapes it away from Dhawan.

After 3 overs, India are 10/0 (Rohit Sharma 4, Shikhar Dhawan 6)
Shot! India get their first boundary as Dhawan stands on his left toe and cuts it past point for four.

The ball is then changed as it hit something and got a big dent.

Six runs from that Wood over.

#IndvEng

KL Rahul to bat at 5 and keep.

With Pant back and in form…

with Ishan Kishan making an impression too…

one wonders whether there was a temptation to just go to them?

After 2 overs, India are 4/0 (Rohit Sharma 3, Shikhar Dhawan 1)
Huge appeal off Sam Curran’s first ball but Nitin Menon says not-out.

The ball seemed to pitch slightly outside leg and even hit Rohit high.

Decent shape for the left-arm pacer into the right-hander.

Three runs from that over.

Interesting little pre-match chat with Shreyas Iyer.

Says his preferred spot is No 3 but obviously that's "next to impossible" so happy to bat anywhere he adds.

#INDvENG https://t.co/WsjkbvELFP

#IndvEng

Dhawan's strike-rate of 93.9 is higher than that of Rohit (88.92).

Both averaging higher than 40.

Rohit almost touching 50 (49.27) while Dhawan has an average of 45.02.

Coming into the match, they have scored 4802 runs while batting together at an avg of 45.3.

After 1 over, India are 1/0 (Rohit Sharma 1, Shikhar Dhawan 0)
Just one run from that first over bowled by Mark Wood.

No surprise that the right-arm quick is generating solid pace immediately.

Not much sideways movement in the first over, though.

1.31 pm: Right, Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are at the crease and we’re ready for play! This is a big series for Dhawan, with the likes of Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav (and perhaps more) waiting in the wings.

Mark Wood has the new ball in hand.

Here we go!

1.26 pm: The players are out on the field and it’s time for the national anthems.

First up, it’s England’s.

Kuldeep Yadav, ignored for most of this season, picked ahead of Chahal.

That’s a bit of a surprise!

1.05 pm: Virat Kohli confirms KL Rahul will bat at 5 and keep.

Kuldeep Yadav is in the XI too.

1.01 pm: TOSS – Eoin Morgan has won the toss (surprised?) and England will BOWL first! Virat Kohli says he’s “very happy” that India are batting first.

“We have defended well in the T20 series twice and can carry that confidence today.”

12.45 pm: The big news ahead of the toss is that Prasidh Krishna and Krunal Pandya will be making their debuts today!

Hello and welcome to the live coverage of India vs England, the first ODI that begins in Pune today.

With India headed into three one-day internationals against England starting on Tuesday after winning a gruelling Test series 3-1 and Twenty20 series 3-2, Kohli spoke about a whole host of issues in the pre-match press conference.

Watch: Virat Kohli on India’s opening plans, his thoughts on umpire’s call, KL Rahul and more

England’s three one-day internationals against India starting Tuesday will be a fresh opportunity for players to make the case for World Cup places this year, skipper Eoin Morgan said.

England lost a hard-fought Twenty20 series against India 3-2.

But Morgan and coach Chris Silverwood say the tour is still providing valuable lessons about the tough conditions in the country where the T20 World Cup will be staged in October-November.

And more will be learned from the ODIs in Pune, said to the captain.

“Given the World Cup round the corner, playing any international cricket at all is a huge opportunity for guys who have been on the fringes and not made selection so far,” Morgan told reporters.
