Arnott, Fleming and Hastings are back for the new series of Line of Duty, but who’s joining them?

There are always big stories on WalesOnline – don’t miss any with our daily email

Line of Duty starts back on Sunday, March 21 and it's been two years since we last saw the AC-12 gang on the BBC (not counting the repeats).

The cast is always great, with stalwarts Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar making up the main trio.

Past series has seen the likes of Keeley Hawes, Daniel Mays, Lennie James and Stephen Graham guest star and raise suspicions and ramp up tension in the drama which sees the anti-corruption team try and uncover the bent coppers.

The team was filming the latest series during the pandemic and had to have constant testing on set.

The new storyline introduces Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson as the senior investigating officer on an unsolved murder case whose suspicious conduct attracts the attention of AC-12.

You can find out more about this series of Line of Duty, here, and watch the trailer here.

Here's more on the cast, old and new…

Scottish actor Martin has fast became a TV detective favorite after almost a decade playing Steve Arnott, who's had some scrapes in his time at AC-12.

Recently, Martin talked about where his character is at the start of series six.

"Steve is still a DS," said Martin.

"So, still no promotion but he is chasing! He has got bored as AC-12 is now tainted and the investigations have been severely curtailed.

At the start, he is chasing up mundane cases; similar to chasing Lennie James over the expense of a bacon roll in the first series! Steve thrives on the thrill of the chase and the adventure of it so he’s a bit lost and having issues both physically and mentally.

"He definitely sees himself as a bit of a Sherlock Holmes with a waistcoat."

Since series five you'll have seen Martin in Scottish drama Traces as well as The Nest and he's in upcoming drama, Vigil.

Honorary Welshie Vicky returns as Kate Fleming, who, from the trailer looks really angry.

We don't know if she's undercover, or whether the stand-off has interrupted her and guest star, Kelly MacDonald doing a puzzle on set.

Vicky has said of her co-star: "We were really grateful to have a new guest lead that fits straight into the Line of Duty family.

We had some brilliant scenes to do together and enjoyed many jigsaws together! I think everyone will be blown away with Jo’s storyline."

In between Line of Duty five and six, Vicky's been seen in Amazon Prime series, Alex Rider and, with Welsh fiancee Jonny Owen, been sending lots of well-wishes to NHS staff, including to Merthyr's Prince Charles Hospital.

Ted Hastings is 'put through the ringer' during this series according to actor Adrian who has also revealed that this series is a 'head-wreck' for fans.

Adrian also said: "Let’s face it – time is running out a bit for Ted; the age he is, whether he can stay in the force, is he useful enough, is he a bit of a dinosaur? He’s up against quite a bit.

His personal life is not in great shape."

Line of Duty wouldn't be the same without the Irish actor who in the gap between series five and six starred in the series Blood as Jim Hogan.

In an exciting revelation, LoD newcomer and Boardwalk Empire and Trainspotting actor Kelly said of the famous LoD interview scenes: "One of the interview scenes is bigger than anything I’ve ever done before – I think over half an hour.

We filmed it over two days and on the first day, the cameras were only on my character."

She describes her character as a struggling, lonely figure who is doing well in her career.

You'll also know Kelly from Brave and Nanny McPhee, and other big-screen hits like No Country For Old Men, Anna Karenina and Holmes & Watson.

New to the AC-12 team is Chloe, who is eager to please and actor Shalom is a big fan of the show, too.

Recently Shalom's been in high profile BBC drama, Roadkill as well as Netflix's new take on the King Arthur legend, Cursed.

Our Girl fans will recognise her as Maisie Richards.

A stand-up comedian with appearances on Mock the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, Andi is also an actor and author.

She is best known for her role as Arabella's therapist, Carrie, in I May Destroy You.

She has played a nurse and midwife in EastEnders as well as a trainee in Holby City.

A PC the AC-12 can depend on, PC Jatri has been with the team since series four.

Actor Anneika has also been Deadwater Fell, opposite David Tennant, Ackley Bridge and The Feed.

Buckells is back! You remember him, the sarky replacement for Gates in series one and he also popped up again in series four.

Actor Nigel has also been in Small Axe, Peaky Blinders, Doctors, Silent Witness and Humans.

Where was Line of Duty filmed and where is it set? Locations around Northern Ireland revealed…

The wait is finally over, as Line of Duty is back for its sixth season.

It might be later than expected after the pandemic put filming on hold last year, but viewers will be treated to an extra seventh episode to make up for it.

There’s also the arrival of guest star Kelly Macdonald, playing DCI Joanne Davidson who comes under the scrutiny of AC-12.

So as we sit down to watch the drama unfold, let’s find out more about Line of Duty season 6’s filming location…

The cast of Line of Duty season 6 revealed filming for series six kicked off in Belfast, Northern Ireland back in February 2020.

Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar shared photos from the set last year, but production had to be put on hold during lockdown.

Luckily, filming was able to start back up in autumn last year, with the whole team returning to Belfast.

No new locations have been revealed for this series, but Martin and Vicky were previously spotted on Talbot Street in the central Cathedral Quarter.

Kelly Macdonald was also seen on Burren Way, while there was a raid on a house filmed on Cavehill Road to the north of the city.

According to reports, there was also a dramatic scene filmed 15 miles out of the city at Straid Dam.

In the previous series’ Belfast Central Library on Royal Avenue was used as the Police Headquarters.

The exterior of AC-12’s office has previously been filmed at the HQ of Invest Northern Ireland in the heart of Belfast.

Creator Jed Mercurio has always tried to keep this vague, with the assumption that AC-12 is based in the Midlands somewhere.

In the first series back in 2012, the series was filmed in Birmingham, so it was assumed the anti-corruption squad worked from Broad Street.

But when production of series 2 moved to Belfast, the location was kept vague with very few landmarks shown in filming.

Among the areas mentioned in the unknown city are Kingsgate, Edge Park and Moss Heath.

The AC-12 building address is 296 Manor Road, Kingsgate, LB1 2CV, but LB is not a real area so it remains a mystery.
