Top Gear presenter Sabine Schmitz has tragically died, aged 51.

The German racing legend has passed away after a long battle with Cancer. 

Known as the Queen of the Nurburgring, Schmitz.

was a familiar face on television due to her appearances on Top Gear over the years.

The TV star first appeared alongside Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May back in 2004, becoming an instant hit with fans.

Confirming the tragic news on Wednesday, Nurburgring paid tribute to Schmitz: "The Nürburgring has lost its most famous female racing driver.

Sabine Schmitz passed away far too early after a long illness.

We will miss her and her cheerful nature.

Rest in peace Sabine!

Last year, the racing star revealed she had been secretly battling cancer since 2017, after being forced to pull out of a racing event at the last minute.

Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson led tributes to Sabine on Twitter, writing: "Terrible news about Sabine Schmitz.

Such a sunny person and so full of beans."

Richard Hammond tweeted: "Very sad to hear of the passing of Sabine Schmitz, a proper driving legend who’ll be sadly missed by many.

The Ring has lost its Queen.

RIP."

While James May wrote: "I never thought car makers should be at the ‘Ring, but I always thought Sabine Schmitz should, and would, be.

Rotten news."
